Barbara's Story

Barbara Jean Sydow passed away December 4, 2016 at Creekside Retirement Community where she had lived for the last 11 years.  She was born in Aledo, Illinois on July 12, 1923. 
Before her retirement, she was postmaster at Sam Houston State University.  
She is survived by her son, Douglas Lamar Wheeler, her nephew, Robert Dool, two stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and numerous step-great grandchildren.  Preceding her in death was her husband Wesley Wheeler. She later married Garland Sydow and they were married 33 years, before his death in 2002.
Barbara loved playing bridge, antiques, traveling, chocolate, cats and the color purple. 
The family would like to express our love, respect and thanks to the staff at Creekside for their care of Barbara and Doug. 
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1016 Sam Houston Ave, Huntsville, Texas 77320.
Mrs. Sydow will lie in state on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 13 at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville followed by burial at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery.
