After finishing high school in 1944, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In December of 1945 he was drafted into the U S Air Force. In 1970, Pop Oliver retired, and they all got together and bought Pop a boat. Cecil fished with him for years, catching a lot of white perch. In 1988, Cecil served as president of the Sam Houston Telephone Pioneer Club in Huntsville. They joined the telephone pioneer family campers club called the Ding A Lings. He became the president in 1989, and they enjoyed traveling with the club for many years.
