Charles's Story

Charles A. Gregory, 93, departed this life on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 after an extended illness. Mr. Gregory was born on March 9, 1923 in New Waverly, TX to Walton Louis Gregory and Rosalie Kmiecik Gregory. After graduating from New Waverly High School, he moved to Houston and worked at Hughes Tool Co. until drafted into World War II by the Army Air Force. Initially, he trained in the States as a B-17 crewman, then in Knettishall, England for a short period. On their second mission, they were shot down, and only three survived. He was imprisoned in POW camp for thirteen months. After being discharged from the service, he worked for Shell Refining in Deer Park. He retired in 1985 after 38 years of service. He then returned to New Waverly to the family farm.
Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife Florence Siebert Gregory after 62 years of marriage; brother Norman Gregory and his wife Frances; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his other 10 siblings.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Friday, September 30 from 6-8 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis with Rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 11 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, TX with burial to follow at Elmina Cemetery.
