Dorothy (Dot)'s Story

Dorothy (Dot) Geneva Steely Neathery was born July 31, 1931 to Will and Nora Steely in Coldspring, Texas. She passed away June 22, 2016 in Huntsville.
Dot is survived by her amazing husband of sixty-seven years, John Neathery, Jr; her son, Jay Neathery and wife, Lynn; son-in-law, Doug Corkins; grandchildren, Caitlin Corkins, Claire Corkins and daughter, Madelyn; Caroline Corkins; Cara Neathery; Jason Neathery and wife, Rachel, and children, Reagan, Johnny, Titus (Ty) and soon-to-be-born Roy; Austin Neathery and wife, Rachel; Drew Neathery, Alona Neathery and Caleb Neathery. Dot was one of ten children and her sister, Stella Milam is the only surviving sibling, as well as her sister-in-law, Becky Steely. There are many nieces and nephews as well. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Dee Corkins.
Dot earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees from Sam Houston State University and served in the Conroe ISD, retiring as principal at Armstrong Elementary. She then helped other students become teachers as she taught Classroom Management at SHSU after retiring from CISD.
Dot knew the Lord and is rejoicing now with her God. She has always been an active church member, and is a member of University Heights Baptist Church. She served there in many ways.
Dot loved to sing and was active in the Senior Adult Community Choir for many years.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a sweet grandmother. She was an amazing cook and could crochet anything! She had many talents, but the most important thing is that she knew the Lord Jesus.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 7:30 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Black Jack Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.
