Gene's Story

Gene Jerome Allen was born in Bunkie, Louisiana on November 3, 1940.
He passed away peacefully in Shenandoah, TX on June 27, 2017.
Gene proudly served in the US Navy and the US Army National Guard. He became a licensed Barber and worked for more than 25 years as a professional Barber. Gene worked as a millwright in the petroleum industry. He moved to Huntsville and became a locksmith for the TDCJ at the Ferguson Unit and retired after 10 years service.
He preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandra Kaye Allen, mother and father Mary Indiana Bordelon and Adolph Francis Allen.
Left to treasure his memories are daughter; Shelia Kaye Smith, son; Michael Gene Shipley, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sisters; Errol Lee Gauthier, Barbara Ross, Bing Lee Ponton, and Ann Marie Herring, five nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews.
His Loyal companions Daisy, Peggy Sue, ChiChi, and Samson. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
A special thank you to Rev. Reagan Cooksey, and Northside Baptist Church, as well as Vitas Hospice, of Shenandoah for all the loving care and compassion that was provided during our time of need.
A Celebration of Gene's Life will be held on Friday, June 30th, at 10:00 AM at Waller Thornton Funeral Home Huntsville, with Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating.
