Ivy's Story

Ivy Lee Beene Moss, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, joined our Heavenly Father on November 29, 2017 at the age of 79.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Moss, Jr. father, Charlie Beene, mother and step-father, Ida Eddie and Donald Hicks, father and mother-in-law, Roy and Roberta Moss, brother Lyndel Beene, brother-in-law Dave Richardson and her good friend Joanne Sikes.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia and husband C.W. Barker of Brenham and Kirk and wife Brenda Moss of Huntsville, grandchildren, Katie and husband Brantley Freeman of Midlothian, Kristie Barker and friend Clint Sternadel of Brenham and Garrett Moss of Huntsville. She is also survived by brothers, Jerald Beene and wife Judy, Charles (Bo) Beene and wife Betty, Mitchell Beene and wife Elaine, Ken Beene and wife Linda and sister-in-laws Linda Beene and JoAnn Richardson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ivy was born December 24, 1937 in Keith Texas, at the home of her parents. Her father died when she was a child, leaving her mother a widow with six small children, Ivy and her five brothers. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, TX and after graduation worked at Texas A&M University. In 1958 she and Roy were married in Bryan and moved to Huntsville where Roy was a student.
Ivy worked at multiple part-time positions in the medical field as well as for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association during her life, retiring when her first grandchild was born. The bond between grandparent and grandchild is special and never was that more true of Ivy and her three grandchildren. MomO was always ready for an adventure and never missed an event of any kind until her health began to fail.
In her spare time, Ivy loved to play bridge and volunteer. As a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Ivy sang in the church choir and participated in the J.O.Y. Sunday School class.
She belonged to and held offices in Chi Omega Sorority, Girl Scouts, was a lifetime member of the Texas PTA, Huntsville Study Club, Huntsville Book Review Club, Huntsville Area Newcomers, SHSU University Women, SHSU Parent Association, General Sam Houston Folk Festival, Sam Houstons Raven Rangers and Sam Houston Memorial Museum In 1999, she was awarded a SHSU Alumni Association Service Award for her dedication to the alumni association.
Serving as pallbearers are: Lynn Beene, John Burton, Rusty Davis, Robert McCann, David Richardson, Larry Sikes, Sonny Sikes and Rock Stephens.
Service will be held Friday, December 1st at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Huntsville with Rev. Carrol Williams officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Wheelock Cemetery in Wheelock, Texas. Family will receive friends Thursday, November 30th, 5:30 7:30 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
