James (Jim)'s Story

Text size

James (Jim) Robert Welsh was born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1953.  Jim went home to be with the Lord on Sunday May 14th, 2017 in Conroe, Texas after 63 years on this earth.  Jim was the beloved son of Frances and Darden Welsh.  Jim also was so lucky to have two younger sisters, Margaret Welsh Thomason married to Lyle Thomason, and Lisa Welsh Ericson.  Jim loved and treasured his wife Cherie Welsh, whom he spent 13 glorious years in marriage with.  Together Jim and Cherie have eight children; son Lawrence Welsh, daughter Sarah Welsh married to Scott Cozien, daughter Sharon Welsh, step-son Wes Bills married to Wendy Bills, step-son James Bills married to Misty Bills, step-son Jimmy Bills married to Diana Bills, step-son Dan Davis engaged to Acacia Jarvis, step-son Justin Davis engaged to Mackenzie Nicks. Between all the children, PaPa Jim had 13 grandchildren; Tripp, Victor, Lawrence, Robert, James, Trey, Courtlyn, Lindsy, Chelsea, Liliana, Josey, Daisy, and Anderson.  Jim was baptized at Porter Springs Baptist Church.
Throughout his years, Jim had so many accomplishments.  He graduated with honors from Ewa Beach High School in Honolulu, HI with the class of 1972.  Jim was also an accomplished musician playing in band throughout school.  He also graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Agricultural Science, incredibly with his dad graduating with him.  Jim was with Huntsville Memorial Hospital for thirty-three plus years.  Over those years he was a valued employee and good friend to many. Jim had an impeccable work ethic, was dependable, and always willing to do what was needed for the success of the hospital and his fellow co-workers.
Jim not only loved his family, but he loved life. He had the privilege to travel the world but he had also mastered so many skills.  Jim loved creating leather work, grilling the best brisket, shooting a mean game of pool and learning everything that he could about history.  Some of his hobbies included collecting anything John Wayne, watching John Wayne movies, and studying historical facts about John Wayne.  Jim also loved the Dallas Cowboys, John Deere, classical music like Merle Haggard and The Beatles and strumming his guitar while singing to his family.  Did we mention he loved John Wayne?
Jim leaves behind his immediate family, parents, mother-in-law Gladys Anderson, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. All of Jim's friends and family are welcomed to join the celebration of his life.
