James (Jim) A. Shaw, Jr, 72, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:43 pm. Memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 27th at Holly Brook Baptist Church in Hawkins, Texas. There will a graveside service held at 3 pm at Herrington Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine, Texas with Charles Grasty officiating.
Jim was born in Leesville, Louisiana in 1945 to his parents James A. Shaw, Sr and Gwendolyn Ruth Cain Shaw. He is survived by the love of his life, Vicki, of 49 years; his daughter, Kayla Yaunk and husband, Charles (Chuck) of Pensacola, Florida (formerly of Palestine, Texas); his grandchildren; Samantha Douglas, Sarah McMorris and husband, Dee, David J. McDowell (DJ), Charlie Tunstall and husband, Cody, Tara Farris and husband Rick; and seven great -grandchildren .
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James A. Shaw, III (Jimmy), his sisters Linda Maywald and Joyce Townsend.
Jim graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, in 1967. Later that year, he entered the United States Air Force where he was a Military Training Instructor at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas until 1971.
He is a retired Regional Director with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and went on to be the National Director for the private prison industry until 2011. He also served as a Holly Lake Ranch board member in 2017. Jim especially loved being known by his faith and love for his Lord. He was a member of Holly Brook Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon and Sunday School class teacher. Additionally, he really enjoyed cooking for the monthly Men's Breakfast, working with the children at Vacation Bible School every year, had a passion and love for fishing with his best fishin' buddy, Rick, and loved spending quality time with his daughter, Kayla, and his grandkids. Most of all, his faith and family were the center of his life and his servant's heart was evident in all that he did.
If you had to ask Jim one more thing, he would say, "Do you know my Jesus? John 14:6
Jesus said unto them, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes unto the Father except by Me".
