Jerry Stroud Moorer and his son, John Stroud Moorer, passed away this week in Huntsville. John preceded his father in death on February 2, 2018 at the age of 44, from a heart attack. Jerry passed away early on February 6th, at the age of 78, from injuries sustained after a fall.
Jerry and his wife Judy moved to Huntsville in 1971, when he joined Bobby Murray in the land surveying business, they would form the company which became known as Murray and Moorer Surveyors, then Jerry would continue in business through 2018, owning Moorer and Woods Surveyors. His son, John, was born in October 1973, and his daughter, Julie, was born in January of 1976. His family were members of First Baptist Church, and Jerry was found each Sunday greeting visitors and serving as a deacon.
Jerry was a much respected business man, but will be remembered for his dedication to his family. His humor, love and honesty will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him. His son John is remembered for his love and acceptance of others, his faith in God, as well as his generosity and sense of humor.
Jerry and John are survived by Judy Moorer of Huntsville, Julie Giles and her husband Dainon Giles, and their daughter Alex Giles, all of Little Elm, TX.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM till 7:30 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 9 at 11 am in the Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, and a celebration will follow at 1 pm at First Baptist Church of Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be given to the HEARTS Museum of Huntsville, in the name of Jerry and John Moorer.
