Jewel Marie Mayrant

Jewel Marie Mayrant Born to Iva Pearl and Alton Sanford Wilson in Sweetwater, Texas on July 22, 1922, and married to Lowell for 71 years. Jewel passed away February 25, 2019 in Nassau Bay, Texas. Jewel lived a full life surrounded by family. During WWII, she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" at the Northum Grumman Plant, while her husband served in the Navy.
After graduating Sam Houston State University, Jewel taught third grade for 23 years at Porter Elementary and car pooled with other teachers from Huntsville to Porter every day. She held a wide variety of interests and hobbies including gardening, fishing, collecting antiques and sewing. A beautiful seamstress herself, Jewel enjoyed quilting and quilt shows. She was active in church by teaching Sunday school and helping with the children's plays, and supporting missions. Jewel often boasted of her broad jumping and track activities in high school, claiming to be better than her brothers.

Jewel is preceded in death by her husband (Lowell), and eight of her brothers and sisters (Ernest, Odessa, Dorothy, Clyde, Lee Roy, Jean, Muriel, and Orville) She is survived by her daughter Ginger (Bill) Mayrant Fogg and son Gary (Susan) Mayrant; grandchildren Chuck (Robin) Bryce, Jennifer Mayrant, Col. Richard (Judy) Fogg, Barbara (Neal) Hamrick; sister Bonnie Wilson Holland; sisters-in-law Thelma Wilson and Edie Wilson; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Samantha and Dennis Hamrick; Jonathan, Christa and Charissa Bryce, Austin and Allison Fogg; and great-great-grandchildren Madison Hamrick, Seth, David and Jacob Bryce, and Arabelle Fogg.

The visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on March 5 at Sam Houston Funeral Home with the services following at 2 p.m. Jewel will be laid to rest next to her husband Lowell at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas March 6 at 10 a.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Walter Toronjo and Consider the Lilies for their many years of loving care.
