Events

Lilla Sue Adams passed away surrounded by loved ones at her home, in Huntsville, Texas on August 30, 2019. Sue was born December 3, 1937 in Huntsville, Texas to Rufus and Mary Edith Mitchell. She grew up on the family farm near Shiro, Texas and attended school in Huntsville. She graduated from Huntsville High in 1955 and attended Sam Houston State University until she married.

Sue met her husband, Royce Adams, in the first grade. They married in January 1957 and they lived in California for three and a half years while he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base. After several moves and four children they returned to Texas where they settled in Carrollton.

Sue started back to college in 1966 and graduated with her Teachers Certification in 1968 and began teaching that fall in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch school district. Sue taught seventh and eighth grade math for 23 years with the last 15 being in Special Education.

In 1990 she was diagnosed with the Epstein Barr Virus (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and shortly after had to retire from teaching. Through the years, Sue has suffered with severe pain due to her illness and many other medical problems that accompany chronic fatigue. She retired from teaching in 1993 and she and Royce returned to her family's farm where they built their home.

One of Sue's favorite things to do was singing with her husband, Royce. They loved Gospel music and harmonized beautifully. Family and friends enjoyed their singing as well and asked them on many occasions to sing. In 1997, Royce and Sue started the Adams Trio with family friend, Fredell Edens of Huntsville. Through the years, they have traveled and sang at churches and conventions in surrounding states.

Sue loved the Lord, reading, singing, gardening, canning, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. She loved sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren and made baby blankets for area hospitals.

Sue is survived by her husband of 62 ½ years, Royce Adams; children - Karen Adams, Kay Andino, Kenneth Adams, and TJ & Kathy Nichols; Grandchildren - Crystal Pevehouse, Jennifer Andino, Hilary & Andy Burtch, Kyle & Katie Adams, Lauren Andino, Leslie Adams, Abbey Nichols, Emily Nichols, Amanda Adams, and Maria Andino; Great Grandchildren - Eli, Tyler, Evie, Kamden, Christian and Arlen; her sister, Joyce McLaughlin of Huntsville and many other family members.

So sorry for your loss. Sue was always an inspiration to me. How she could stand up and sing with such power was always truly amazing. What a gift she shared for the Lord's glory.
