Lucy's Story

Lucy Flora Durham, 91, of Huntsville, Texas went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 21, 2017. She was born on February 14, 1926 in Cheltenham, England to Charles Edward Hartwell and Eliza Rosa Hartwell.
Lucy began her new life when she came to America on the Queen Mary, as a War World II bride, and arrived by train in Phelps, Texas with her beloved husband, J. L. Durham.
Lucy will be remembered as strong Christian woman, who faithfully served as a member of First Assembly of God Church in Huntsville, Texas since 1955. Through her walk with Christ, Lucy touched many lives. She served many years at the church as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader and ran the nursey for many years.
Lucy worked at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, overseeing the daily operation of housekeeping. During her free time she enjoyed planting and growing Old Maid flowers and crocheting, quilting and playing backgammon with her grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her sons James Mac Durham and wife Patsy, Robert Earl Durham and wife Tereasa and Jay L. Durham; grandchildren Rhonda Majors and husband Paul, Nathan Durham and wife Brandy, Erinn Leigh Hendricks and husband Mark, Krystal Durham, Shane Durham and wife Lauren and Britni Durham; great-grandchildren Zoey, Luke, Caleb, Ty, Kyla, Malakai, Addi Beth and Austin. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Tess Skovron of Great Britain.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 23, 2017, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at McAdams Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.
