Text size

Mayfred Hyde Covington passed away on August 1, 2016 at the age of 93.
May was born on January 6, 1923, to Jim and Lora Hyde. She spent her early years in Huntsville, graduating from Huntsville High School and attending Sam Houston State Teachers College.
It was there that she met and married Joe Rogers Covington. After the war, they moved to his hometown, Normangee, Texas. It was here that they raised their three children. Joe and May lived in a number of towns when he left the teaching profession and became employed by Texas Department of Corrections.
After the death of her husband in 1969, May returned to Huntsville to be near family. She worked at the Sam Houston Museum as a docent until her retirement. May was a longtime member of the Huntsville Church of Christ.
Mrs. Covington was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lora Hyde, sisters Orva and Eloise Hyde, and Jimmie Standley.
She is survived by her children: Jo Ann Masters (Jim) of Missouri City, Texas, Billy Covington (Veronica) of Austin, Texas, and Stephen Covington of Huntsville. She also has five grandchildren and seven great grand children.
In every sense of the word, she was a lady who will be remembered by her family and friends for her sweet manner, positive outlook and quiet sense of humor. She left behind a legacy of love and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Covington's family would like to thank The Lexington Center, Creekside, Thee Hospice and Pat Oliphant's team for their loving care of our Mom.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Covington will be held on August 20, 2016 at the Huntsville Church of Christ at 2:00p.m., 3737 Hwy 30 West in Huntsville, Texas.
