Nora's Story

Nora Irene Hounsel-Dyer, 89, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on March 1, 1927 in Eaton, Ohio, daughter of the late Pearl Donald and Nora Ethel (Tipton) Hurd. She spent most of her life in Scott County, Indiana and was a homemaker. Nora was a member and secretary of the Scott County Hymn Sing Association, traveling and singing at many area churches, preforming at the Leota Frolic with her group that was called "The Witnesses". She was preceded in death by a son, John David Hounsel, Jr. on Jan. 9, 1982; 2 brothers, David Tipton and Donald Richard Hurd; 4 sisters, Mary Hurd, Florence Louise Allison, Glenna Mae Tobias Spencer and Martha Ella Ellison. Her survivors include: a son, Gregory Linn Hounsel of Richmond, Virginia; a daughter, Gwen Ellen (Jeff) Voyles of Scottsburg, Indiana, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Saturday at Collins Funeral Home Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday and after 12:30 pm Saturday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg, Indiana.
