Ruby Alexander Gilliam

Mrs. Ruby Alexander Gilliam was born on November 18, 1920, in New Waverly , Texas to proud and loving parents, Ike Alexander and Mattie George Bashful Alexander.

With the blessing of being raised in a christian home, Mrs. Ruby accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She united with Macedonia Baptist Church under Rev. HY Williams. During her lifetime she served under several others ministers but her present pastor Rev. Sanders Jackson, where she served faithfully until her death.

She married Thomas V. Gilliam on March 12, 1944 and to this union 6 beautiful children were born. She loved and cared for her family very much. Being in her presence was like sunshine for she brightened your day.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Ruby enjoyed many leisure activities. Her favorite thing to do was to read the bible, which she did faithfully every morning. One of her favorite scripture was from Titus 2:1-8 1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine. 2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. 6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. She was a Worthy Matron of Grand Court Order of Calanthe Guiding Star 306 and worked with Guiding Star 121. She also loved to cook, garden, go to church, travel, and spend time with her family.

On May 3, 2018, Mrs. Ruby Gilliam gained her wings and joined her Heavenly Father in paradise. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike Alexander and Mattie George Bashful Alexander, her husband, Thomas V. Gilliam, her son, Thomas Marion Gilliam and
her siblings, Oscar Alexander, Willie Alexander, Ike Alexander, Tucker Alexander, Mattie Moses, Cynthia Samples, Lucille Hunter, and Alvida Mitchell, and three son-in-laws, Claude Vance Sr., Ronald Lundy, and Rev. Richard Cox.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Cynthia Jean Vance, Jurrell Gilliam, Patricia Gilliam Sykes and Judy Gail Gilliam Cox; and one son, Dwight Gilliam (Donna). She is also survived by a legacy of 24 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, 44 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Those who knew Mrs. Ruby experienced her unforgettable presence, her quick wit, and her caring spirit. She was a kind soul and would go over and beyond to help anyone. Words cannot express the impact she had on everyone in her presence. She was known by many and loved by all for she was called Ruby Lee, Mother, MawMaw, and Aunt Ruby. She was clothed in strength and dignity for her price is far above rubies. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A private interment service will be held for the family. A memorial ceremony will be announced at another date.
