Vernon's Story

Our beloved, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Vernon Manuel has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years Emmie Redmon Manuel, his parents John Frank Manuel and Viola Carter Hunter, his sisters Joyce Manuel Birmingham and Ethelda Manuel Nelson and his older brother Eddie Frank Manuel and son Bob Sanders.
When he was growing up in Shepherd, he stayed with his Uncle William Thomas Manuel at the Manuel Hotel in Shepherd, Texas.
During World War II he was on the USS Signet, a Navy Mine Sweeper in the Japanese Sea. The order was given to return home and then they were ordered to stay as they dropped the two bombs on Japan.
He is survived by his children Peggy Weatherred and her husband William and her son David from North Richland Hills, Texas; John Hollingsworth and his wife Glenda from Snyder, Texas and their children Derek and his wife Ivy; Dakon and his wife Shannon; Barbara Ann Bridgewater and her husband Brent; Roy Allen Hollingsworth and his wife Jacquie; and granddaughter Amy Jane Sanders from Oregon. Along with a 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas.
