Donald Jerald McWilliams, 80, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2016. Donald was born in Hope, Arkansas on January 6, 1936. He moved to Texas as a teen and graduated from Tomball High School in 1954. He joined the Houston Police Department in 1957, and upon promotion in 1962, became the youngest Detective in the Department.
Donald received the prestigious Officer of the Year Award from the Hundred Club of Houston in 1973 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1974. He was selected by the Chief of Police as the first commander of the newly formed Internal Affairs Division in 1977. He continued to serve his community as a Lieutenant until his retirement in 1995. Donald lived in retirement on his ranch in Huntsville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor, and by his son Don McWilliams and daughter-in-law Judge Roberta Lloyd of Houston, Texas. Also survived by grandsons Kyle and Connor McWilliams, granddaughters-in-law Rebecca and Serena McWilliams, and great-grandson Shaun McWilliams. Also survived by his brother, Laverne McWilliams and sister-in-law Clara Ann McWilliams of Medina, Texas.
A memorial service and celebration of Donald's life will take place on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Westway Baptist Church, 12 FM 3179 in Huntsville, officiated by Pastor Tommie Haley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Westway Baptist Church Building Fund.
