Dorothy J. Robertson passed away at the age of 93 on August 18th, 2016 in Huntsville, Texas. She was born on June 23, 1923 in the rural area outside of Thornton, Texas to Elmer and Ida Smith Lenamond, their only child. She attended Thornton Public Schools and the University of Houston.
She and J.W. Robertson were married August 16, 1940. Until his untimely death on July 21, 1961 at age 44, they had lived in Conroe, Dallas, Ben Hur and Houston.
Over the years after her husband's death Dorothy was employed by the Houston Independent School District, Houston Community College and the University of Houston Downtown College for 13 years. After serving as secretary to the UH-D chancellor she retired January 28, 1988.
She moved to Huntsville February 1991, made many friends and was a member of Huntsville Church of Christ. Her interests were first and foremost family, but she enjoyed traveling, genealogy, cards, dominoes and her yard. Affectionately known as "Nana" to her five generation family, her survivors include one daughter, Patsy Robertson Vaughan of Dodge and one son, Mike Robertson and wife, Annette of Houston; four grandchildren - Beverly Hancock and husband, John of Huntsville; Dwaine Vaughan and wife, Shellie of Dickinson; Carrie Ann Newman and husband, Scott of Tucson, Arizona; and Tamara Robertson of Nacogdoches; 10 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; one sister-law, Charlene Robertson of Bellville.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Durwood Vaughan, granddaughter Renea Vaughan, and great-granddaughter Melanie Reed.
The family will receive friends at 9 AM to 10 AM before the funeral services at 10 AM Monday, August 22 at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
Burial will be at the Cobb Cemetery near Thornton, Texas (where four generations of her relatives are buried) at 3 PM on the afternoon of the funeral service.
Pallbearers: Dwaine Vaughan, Dean Vaughan, Richard Reed, John Hancock, Dustin Maniscalco, Scott Newman, Ronnie Robertson, Keith Robertson and Odis Campbell.
