Eldon Ray Wolverton went home to be with our Lord on Monday, October 24th 2016. He was born on February 21st, 1943 to Benjamin and Jewel Wolverton in Huntsville, Texas a city where he was a lifelong citizen and a city he deeply loved. When he finished school at Huntsville High, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served from 1961 to 1966 achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class. After his service, he returned to Huntsville and started a family and career. A skilled auto body repairman for many years, he later pursued a career with TDCJ and retired from the Ellis Unit. He was known for his great sense a humor, a strong love for his family and he enjoyed sports and games like watching his Dallas Cowboys, playing horseshoes, dominos, and rousing games of "donkey".
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gay Lynn McMillian Wolverton, daughter Ruby Wolverton Cowan and her husband Richard Cowan, son Andrew Wolverton, three grandchildren Thomas Pierce, Jr. and his wife Brittany, Tori Pierce and Troy Pierce, and three great grandchildren Faith Deveney, Noah Pierce and Avery Pierce.
Services will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, visitation will be on Thursday, October 27th from 5:00-7:30 PM. The funeral will be Friday, October 28th at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Blackjack Cemetery.
