Text size

Peacefully Evelyn was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017 while residing at Creekside Retirement Community. Born to Bryan and Ruby Thompson on August 28th, 1934 in Soper, Oklahoma. Being the youngest of five children raised in Hugo, Oklahoma and Amarillo, Texas. When Evelyn was twenty years old, she and her parents moved to Houston, Texas. Living in south Houston brought Evelyn a job at the telephone company and a new church to attend, Pasadena Pentecostal Church of God. Evelyn's father wanted her to meet the youth pastor that would soon become the love of her life. Gerald and Evelyn married December 12th, 1954. Together they had two sons, David and Danny.
Gerald and Evelyn moved from Houston in 1969 to Tomball, Tx. While Gerald worked as a machinist by day and Evelyn an insurance office manager, together they built 7 houses by evenings and on weekends. 1985 brought a new move to Hubbard, Tx where they built their last home and semi-retired. They enjoyed their 'Harmony Meadows' with cattle and horses and rolling hills of bluebonnets. Evelyn taught Sunday School and Bible studies and for many years played the accordion and organ in church. Her strengths were her faithful, steadfast relationship with Jesus Christ. Evelyn was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was very proud and excited to become a Grandmother to Caleb and MaryHope.
In 2007 Evelyn began a new season of her life without Gerald as he passed on to his Heavenly home. She moved to Huntsville living in Elkins Lake the last ten years. She maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Danny Cox, David and daughter in love, Amy Cox. Grandchildren Caleb Cox, MaryHope Adams and grandson in love, Jason Adams and her cherished great-granddaughter, Emery Hope Adams. Her dear sisters in love, Claudia Cox Frazee, Sue Cox Herndon, Arvy Jean Cox. Hosts of many special family members that were so very dear to her and she greatly loved many wonderful dear friends.
The family of Evelyn Cox would like to deeply thank Heart to Heart Hospice, Creekside Retirement Community and loving staff, Dr. Karin Olson for the tender care given during the last eight months.
