Eva's Story

Heaven gained an amazing angel on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, Eva Maurine Loyd Clayton, known as Mama, Mimi, Auntie Rene, Maurine, Eva and Mrs. Clayton. She was a God fearing Christian with class and sass. She will be missed by all!!!
Maurine was born August 10, 1923 in Dallas, Texas to Aubrey James and Pearl Mozelle (Foreman) Loyd, two pioneer families from Belton, Bell County, Texas. As a young child she was reared in Belton and then Houston, Harris County, with her two younger sisters, Ann and Joy.
On April 1, 1939, Maurine married Percy Hiram Clayton, who celebrated with her 59 years of marriage, until his death in 1998. Maurine and Percy were the proud parents of three children, Shirley Jean, Aubrey James and Janet Marie. They reared their family in Houston, Texas until 1963, when they made their home in Huntsville, Texas.
Maurine was a faithful member of Westway Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy; her daughter, Shirley Jean Cougot; and daughter-in-law, Karen Arlene Clayton. She is survived by her son, Aubrey James Clayton; daughter, Janet Marie Clayton Gardner, son-in-law, Quinton Dean Gardner and son-in-law, Glenn Dale Cougot. Mimi was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 5, 2017 in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Farris Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.
