Jimmy Harvey Barker died peacefully at the age of 77 on October 09, 2016, in Georgetown, Texas. Jimmy was born April 22, 1939 to the joy of his parents Jesse Edward Barker and Lottie (Dotte) Mae Word Barker.
Jimmy attended the University of New Mexico where he earned a degree in Art. It was during this time that he met Polly Kaufman whom he married January 25, 1964. The young couple eventually spent three years in Germany until 1969. Polly and Jimmy then moved to Huntsville TX in August of 1969 where their son, James Reynell Barker, was born in December of that same year. Also in that year, he began work at the Department Art at Sam Houston State University. His career encompassed nearly 40 years, and included positions of Instructor, Professor and Chairman.
This intelligent, strong, positive individual enjoyed travel, art, and reading, but most of all being with those he loved. Being close with his immediate and extended family, as well as many friends, his presence will be missed by all who had the gift of knowing him. His final days were spent in Georgetown TX near his son and family, at The Oaks Retirement Center.
Jimmy is survived by his son James, his wife Dolores, and beloved grandson Jacob Alexander Barker, of Georgetown, TX. Older brother Jesse Edward Barker Jr. of Kanas and twin brother Jerry Montgomery Barker of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Polly, and his parents.
A gathering of friends and family members will occur at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to a favorite charity.
