Joe C. Ellisor, a gentle giant of a man. If you met him you'd remember him, and if you knew him, you were a friend for life. Joe passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family.
Joe was born January 13, 1938 in Walker County, Texas to Clayton and Sarah Bonds Ellisor. He grew up in the small community of Boswell, just outside of Huntsville, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
In 1959 at the age of 21, he left home for the big city of Bryan, where he got a job with the Bryan Police Department as a Patrolman. Between 1960 and 1962 he was promoted to Sergeant, then Lieutenant, and finally Chief of Police in 1962. At the age of 24, he was possibly the youngest Chief of Police in the state. After 20 years with the City of Bryan he worked at the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in Bryan for eleven years before retiring.
Joe spent his retirement years back at his family home, where he grew up tending to cattle, spending time with family and enjoying country life.
Joe was a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Elbert and Arlie Ellisor.
He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Carol Lee; daughter, Terri Leeth and her husband, Greg; son, John Ellisor; daughter, Jeanie Stephenson and her husband, Terry; daughter, Cathi Laney; his brother, Alton Ellisor; his beloved grandchildren, Justin Leeth, Clayton Leeth, Natalie Stephenson, Victoria Stephenson, William Laney and Garrett Laney; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many, many dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 14, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Joe's life, love and influence will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 15, in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Interment will follow the service at Boswell Cemetery in New Waverly, Texas.
