John Philip Riley, 71, of Huntsville, TX died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.
John is survived by his wife Vicky (Hopp) Riley of Huntsville; his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Dixie Riley of Bryan, TX; daughter and son-in-law Andi and Ed Chatal of Huntsville; two step granddaughters Melanie and Bryan Morris and Alyssa Hackney of Bryan, TX; mother-in-law Jacky Hopp of Nicollet, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Pam Hopp of Fairfax, MN, JoEllen and Jim Brevitz of Nicollet, MN, Paula and Terry Vollmer of Mankato, MN, Steven Hopp and Lyle Jackson of Minneapolis, MN, Chet Hopp of Minnetonka, MN, Kris and Bill Juberien of St. Peter, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law John Hopp.
John Philip Riley, the son of John Edd and Frances (Pifer) Riley, was born September 23, 1945 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. They moved to Pharr, TX when he was two. He graduated from PSJA High School in 1963 and attended two years of college at Pan American College in Edinburg, TX. He was united in marriage to Victoria Hopp December 27, 1969 in Nicollet, MN. John was a veteran, serving in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He spent most of his tour of duty stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonio, TX, with a three month temporary duty in Vietnam. John returned to the Rio Grande Valley and worked in the office supply business. He started out with McKnight's Office Supply, and thru buy outs went to Jones Office Supply, Jones and Cook Stationers and retired in 2012 from Gateway Printing. He was also a retired member of the Pharr Volunteer Fire Department and spent many years working with the Boys Scouts of America. He loved spending time with his family, working with his model trains and hunting.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2017 in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
