Mae's Story

Mae Rogers, 79, of Huntsville, Texas was called home December 20, 2016 after a brief illness surrounded by her family. Born August 19, 1937 in Buena Vista, Georgia to Claud Willis Dobbs and Naomi Elizabeth Jernigan. She graduated from The Medical Center School of Nursing in Columbus, Georgia as a Registered Nurse in 1958. While in nursing school she met the love of her life Sgt. Floyd Lee Rogers, Jr. who was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia and they married in 1959. After her husband's military career took them around the world, they settled in Huntsville, Texas in 1975 where she worked at Huntsville Memorial Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in 1998.
As a young mother, she was both President of the PTA and a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, puzzling and was a Master Gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Betty Dobbs Miller and one great granddaughter, Nora Mae Saurez.
She is survived by her son, Floyd Lee Rogers III (Tray) of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Pamela "Suzy" Rogers Richey Smart and husband Harles of Gardner, Louisiana; and Janet "Jan" Rogers Leal and husband Leo of Conroe, Texas. One younger sister, Pauline Dobbs McCorkle of Buena Vista, Georgia along with her 7 grandchildren, Christopher Ricketts and wife Mary Beth; Sarah Leal Saurez and husband Lupe; Amanda Ricketts, Seth Leal, Chandler Richey, Sterling Rogers and Grace Rogers along with 5 great grandchildren; Kenison, Jackson, Grayson, Olivia & Isla.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10am in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Burial to follow in Bath Cemetery. Visitation will be observed Thursday 5-8pm in the funeral home.
