Major John's Story

Major John Clinton Deloney, Jr, retired, USAR
Born March 25, 1924 in Montgomery, AL to John Clinton Deloney, Sr. and Mildred Harrison Deloney, he went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 19, 2016 at the age of 92 in Montgomery County, TX.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated servant of God. He loved fishing, camping, playing games, and spending time with family and friends. He was a fisherman and a fisher of men. He first became a deacon at Providence Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas. After moving to Clear Lake City, Texas, he was a charter member of Clear Lake First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Treasurer for many years. After moving up near New Waverly, Texas, he served as Head Deacon and Treasurer for First Baptist Church until his recent retirement.
Just out of high school he joined the US Navy, in 1946 he married his wife of 69 years, Wynelle Allen. He graduated from the University of Alabama, where he was a part the ROTC, and quickly worked his way up to Major in the US Army Reserves, where he was a Combat Engineer Unit Commander and Aeronautical Engineer.
He worked for General Dynamics and later became a General Engineer with Nasa/Johnson Space Center. A few of his many accomplishments were designing tools for the moon landing and the Space Shuttle Piggyback attachment for the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.
He is survived by daughter Patricia Touzet; daughter Portia Sailor; son Wayne Deloney; daughter Denise Winborn and husband Mike; grandsons John Michael Strader and wife Amber, Eeron Frost, Evan Frost, Jack McMenamin, Nick Deloney, and Michael Winborn; granddaughter Jessica Winborn; great-granddaughter Ellanora Strader; brother Bill Deloney and wife Julie, sister Sara Robertson, brother-in-laws Howard Allen and wife Lillian, and Don Allen and wife Pat; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mildred Deloney, father-in-law Bill Allen and mother-in-law Bea Allen; sisters Hazel Lacey and Elaine Deloney, sister-in-law Peggy Deloney; brother Gene Deloney, and brother-in-law Pascal Robertson.
Flowers are welcome. Memorial Tributes may be made to Strader Missions (John and Amber Strader missionaries to Kenya) via First Baptist Church, New Waverly, Texas, made to First Baptist Church, New Waverly, or made to your favorite military support group.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at First Baptist Church in New Waverly, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Forest Park The Woodland in The Woodlands, Texas.
