Rayford "Ray"'s Story
Ray Johnson 75, of Richards, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday September 24, 2016, at his home.
Ray graduated from Huntsville ISD and later attended Sam Houston University.
Ray joined the Air Force to serve his country and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Ray was a skilled craftsmen in construction who helped build many roads and buildings in and around Houston, helped build the Star of Republic Museum at the Washington on the Brazos State Park and was part of the team that constructed Splashtown in Spring, Texas.
Ray believed in serving his community. He donated his time to local groups to include Conroe Lions Club, the Montgomery County and Walker County Fair Associations.
Ray is preceded in death by his mother Esther Ellington Johnson and his parents Clyde and Margaret Johnson.
Ray leaves behind his sister, Gloria Cox and brothers Richard "Glynn" and Jearl and his wife Carolyn Johnson, son Keith and his wife Susie, son Jessie and his wife Ragena, and daughter Christy. He was a proud grandfather to 8 and great grandfather to 7.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday September 29, 2016 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Officiated by Reverend Tommie Haley. Fellowship to follow at the West Sandy School House in Richards, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Walker County Rodeo Scholarship.
