Robert (Bob) Cox died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and
friends in New Waverly, Texas on September 27, 2016.
Bob was born on December 6, 1941 in Elkhart, Texas to James Douglas Cox and Vera
Virginia Carreker Cox. Bob graduated from Jeff Davis High School in
Houston. Following high school he attended college at Stephen F. Austin
University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi "Sawyers" fraternity.
It was here that he met many of his lifelong friends. After leaving SFA, Bob began
a career in sales and eventually became a printer in Houston. He served in the
U.S. Army Reserves as a Military Police Officer from 1966 to 1972. He later
moved to Huntsville in 1992, where he began teaching printing for Windham School District, TDCJ. Bob finished his Bachelor's Degree in 1996, often joking
that it only took him 30 years to get a 4-year degree...and from his former rival school,
Sam Houston State University. Bob continued working for Windham as a printer and a teacher until his retirement. After retiring from Windham, he worked part time for Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home and pursued his passions for gardening, fishing, and ministering to inmates in TDCJ.
Bob was reunited with Kathy, his high school sweetheart, in 1994. They married in 1996 and lived very active lives taking road trips, volunteering, and serving in the church. Bob loved Kathy almost as much as fishing, gardening, and cooking. Bob never met anyone he didn't call a friend. Throughout his life, Bob was a volunteer at Boys and Girls Country, an active member and deacon at First Baptist Church in New Waverly, University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville, Promise Keepers Men's Group, and was very involved in Prison Ministry.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vera Cox, his brothers, James Douglas Cox and Glen Lewis Cox. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Corey Hanchey and Chase Belcher.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Glenn Wilson Cox, sister
Betty Pasquali and husband Lee, children Donita Wilson and husband
Scott, Stacie Barfield and Don, Lance Wilson and wife Kim, Kellie Noble
and husband Mike, and Brandie Wilson Lopez. Grandchildren, Zachary
Barfield and wife Crysta, Devon Hanchey, Kelsey Navarrette, Logan
Schneider and wife Megan, Toby Tunning, Tuff Wilson, and Noelia Lopez.
