Wendell Thomas Stewart, Sr. passed away at the age of 77 at his home in Huntsville on May 18, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on January 25, 1940 in Houston to Edwin Thomas and Trubie Stewart, who both preceded him in death.
He was survived by son Wendell Thomas (Tommy) Stewart, Jr. and wife Beverly of Huntsville, daughter Christine Dale Stewart of Magnolia, and son Scott Stewart and wife Debbie of Mondovi, Wisconsin. Grandchildren included Thomas Lee Stewart and wife Malinda, Ashley Elizabeth Hickson, Lauren Nicole Hunt and husband David, Rachel Marie Hickson, Jessica Blair, Courtney Stewart, and Tyler Stewart. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Julie Hunt, Cohen Thomas Stewart, Braxton Stewart, Tyler Blair, Leif Blanchard and Noah Hunt.
Mr. Stewart was employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 21 years until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and was an avid gun enthusiast. He spent his final years enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Traditions Hospice of Conroe for caring for their loved one.
A memorial service honoring Mr. Stewart will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Stewart home on FM 1791, Huntsville. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the service following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Huntsville, Children's Programs, or the American Cancer Society.
