Bobby was a four-year letterman in track and football and was named All Lone Star Conference halfback in 1956. He was later inducted into the Sam Houston's Hall of Honor in 1979 for his outstanding football accomplishments. He earned his Master of Education in Secondary and Elementary Administration from Texas A&M University, as well as certifications in supervision and superintendency from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University.
Bobby began his career at Cedar Hill High School and went on to coach under legendary coach Bum Phillips at Groves Junior High in Port Neches-Groves. He played the game of life with the utmost dignity and was successful at every challenge.
