Charles Howard Bass Obituary
Charles Howard Bass, 83, went home to be with the Lord on July 30. 2022. He was born on January 8, 1939, to Floyd and Rena Bass at Fort Bragg, NC. He graduated from Seventy-First High Scholl in Fayetteville, NC.
After graduation, he went to work at various textile mills with his brother. He soon discovered that was not for him, so he went to work moving soldiers from base to base. Once Charles moved to Texas, he decided to go back to school to get an electronics degree. After working in electronics, he decided he needed a business degree. That decision brought him to Acker Electronics and Sam Houston State University. Charles and Patsy purchased Acker Electronics in 1974 and it became Bass Electronics and Radio Shack. Charles loved TV tower work. He would say he would rather be putting up a 60-foot tower than be in the shop. He was definitely not happy when the doctor told him to retire in 2010! His retirement years were filled with doing yard work and helping Patsy with her work at Kate's Gilded Lily. His hobbies included doing anything related to airplanes, models, remote controls or at the Huntsville Airport. In his retirement years he enjoyed drinking his Pepsi, enjoying Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, and eating candy, especially Milky Ways.
In 1971, Charles became a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. He truly loved being an Elk. From 1982-1984, he served as the Exalted Ruler of the Huntsville Elks Lodge # 1981. From 1984-1985, he served as Vice-President for the East District. He also served two (2) terms as District Deputy (1985-1986 and 1994-1995).
Charles is preceded in death by parents, Floyd, and Rena Bass: Brother Floyd Bass and sister-in-law Margaret Bass: sister Faye Gaskins and brother-in-law Gene Gaskins: son Chuck Bass, mother-in-law Mittie Bicknell, father-in-law Jack Bicknell, and nephew Cary Bass.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Patsy Bass, brother-in-law Jimmy Bicknell, nephew Gene Gaskins and wife Sheila of Huntsville, Texas, nephew Randy Gaskins and wife Sharon of Fayetteville, NC, nephew William Bass of Fletcher, NC, niece Lori Lunsford of Chester, SC, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
At Charles's request there will not be a funeral service. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
