Fred Nolan Mote
Fred Nolan Mote was born in Delta, Alabama, on October 8, 1936, to William I. Mote and Sity Cofield Mote. He passed away on September 12, 2019 at his home in Huntsville, Texas.
Fred came to Texas in 1959 while serving in the U.S. Army 720th Military Police Battalion at Fort Hood. Fred fell in love with Texas and a Texas schoolteacher, Sue Frances High, and here he remained until his death. He loved raising cattle, plowing the black land of Trinity County and the sandy land of Walker County, baling hay, mowing pastures, deer hunting, and hog hunting (By any means...) He also loved wearing cowboy boots and hats and playing 42. He loved all things Texan, but he remained true to his Alabama roots and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He served at Ellis Unit beginning before the Unit's construction was completed and rose to the rank of Major. He later was an owner/operator (trucker) and hauled primarily oilfield equipment and materials all over North America. He loved serving his Lord and his church, Northside Baptist, as a deacon and properties committee chairman.
Fred was very proud of his children and considered their spouses his children also: daughter Sheree and husband Paul Klass; and son John and wife Marianne Mason Mote. He was especially proud of his two grandchildren, Nolan Mote and Makayla Mote.
Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fran Mote, and his two children Sheree and husband Paul Klass of Plano, Texas, and son John Mote and wife Marianne Mason Mote and their two children, Nolan and Makayla of Conroe, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Leon Mote (age 100) of Woodland, Alabama, and sisters Stella and husband Rod Lum of Woodland, Alabama, and Faye and husband Gerald McCord of Roanoke, Alabama. Fred is preceded in death by W. I. and Sity Cofield Mote, Clyde and Pauline Mote, Jan and E. C. Jobe, W. R. and Florence Mote, Mavis and Nevin Brown, and Jewel Mote.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 10am at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, TX with burial to follow at the Clines Prairie Cemetery located on FM 980. Visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2019 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Sam Houston Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX. The family is grateful to STAT Home Health, St. Joseph's Hospice, and Drs.
