Gerald A. Heartfield III ("Trey") of The Woodlands, Texas, passed from this earth into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on August 3, 2022. Trey was born to Gerald A. Heartfield, Jr. ("Jerry") and Martha Ann Grisham on October 29, 1961, into an incredible, dynamic, loving and ever-increasing family who greatly impacted Trey's life over time with each person weaving a piece of their story into Trey's. Trey's wonderfully gregarious nature, striking good looks, artistic skills and affable personality are testimonies of the family legacy he inherited from the Heartfields and the Grisham's, and the following acknowledges his wonderful and beloved family who were so important to him.
Trey is preceded in death by his parents Jerry Heartfield, Jr. and Martha Grisham Heartfield, and by his grandparents James and Edith Grisham and Jerry and Blanche Heartfield. Trey is also preceded in death by his Uncle Ralph Grisham, his Aunt Patsy Heartfield Pierce, and his Aunt Sharon Heartfield Durbin.
Trey is survived by his wife, Sofia Heartfield, his son Mitchell and his daughters Hayley and Macie Heartfield, and his stepchildren Jason and Vanessa Galvan. Trey is also survived by his sister Heidi Fabian (Dan, Koda & Rinley), his brother James Heartfield (Darleen, Corey & Camille), his Aunt Mary Grisham Green (Charles), his Uncle Bob Heartfield (Anne), his Uncle Denny Durbin, his Uncle Danny Pierce (Cindy), and his many wonderful cousins Debbie Pierce Jones, Dan Pierce (Estrella), Joy Pierce Cothren, Jason Pierce (Amy), Angela Heartfield Dellinger (Bart), Alex Heartfield (Mary) and Lia Durbin.
As anyone who knew him can attest, Trey's heart was as big as Texas and his unwavering love for the Houston Astros and his lifelong passion for the guitar were only out-shown by his contagious laughter and his relentless love for his family and friends. A lifelong Texan, Trey grew up in Huntsville where he graduated from Huntsville High School and began his career working at Heartfield Auto Body Shop under the tutelage of his grandfather and uncle, a vocation he would continue throughout his entire life. His inherited and notable artistic skills and sharp eye for detail led him to become a master painter of automobiles, and he carried those talents over into other areas, including custom one-of-a-kind guitar projects.
Trey loved to find a good bargain and was a consummate "horse trader" of whatever might catch his fancy, especially if it had six strings or four tires. He was nourished by music in many different genres, lost himself in playing his guitars, relished in a relaxing and winding walk, found much joy and love in the world of animals, especially his family pets, soaked up peace watching the wildlife in his backyard, and experienced mountain top highs and frustrating lows while cheering for his Astros (and Texans too). Even though he wouldn't admit it to many people, Trey also enjoyed watching Hallmark Movies with his wife Sofia on a weekly basis (even when it wasn't Christmas). Friendly teasing was part of Trey's love language, and he was usually found to laugh harder and louder at himself than anyone else, and once the laughter started, it was hard to contain. Laughing with you until you cried was definitely one of Trey's superpowers.
Trey, you are greatly loved, you are already deeply missed, and we are taking needed comfort in knowing we will see you again. May the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
