Howard Mac Rogers Obituary

Huntsville, Texas - On April 30th 1940, in Huntsville, Texas, Howard Mac Rogers was born to Bessie Ree and Elbert Rodgers Jr. As the sixth oldest of eleven children, Howard grew up in a home filled with love, faith, and the teachings of a devoted mother who ensured her children knew the grace and greatness of our Heavenly Father. At an early age, Howard was baptized in the Baptist church but later converted to Catholicism. His early life was spent hunting, fishing, working with cows and dogs, and spending time with his aunts, uncles and cousins in the country. He attended Huntsville Independent School District, graduating from Samuel Houston High School in 1960, where he played football, basketball, ran track and was a part of the Glee Club.

On July 20th 1963, Howard married the love of his life, Earnestine Brooks. Over the course of their sixty-two year marriage, they shared 7 kids Samuel "Sammy'', Jackie, Bobby "Pedi", Chris, Dorecia, Donnie, and Lil Howard.

In his adult life, Howard was a machinist, and driver for East Texas Motor Freight (winning Super Bowl tickets for being voted as their best driver), before full-time pursuing his passion for horses, as well a known horseshoer/horse trainer. Known as "PawPaw" to his family, a dedicated and committed father and grandfather; "Howard Mac" to fellow cowboys and friends, Howard was a valued member of his community serving as the president of the NCR association, winning the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo quarter horse division, and being a teacher and mentor fostering the passion for rodeoing to numerous cowboys and cowgirls.

He is preceded in death by: his son, Samuel; his parents, Bessie Ree and Elbert Rodgers Jr; siblings: Albertus Rodgers, Novella (Rodgers) Johnson, Frederick Rodgers, Lois (Rodgers) Hamilton, Sherry Rodgers, Byron Rodgers, and Margaret (Rodgers) Thomas, and brother-in-law: Ernest Brooks.

To cherish a lifetime of memories he leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Earnestine. Children: Jackie, Pedi (Cathy), Chris (Veronica), Dorecia, Donnie, Lil Howard (Jackie); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Jeanette Rodgers, Linwood Rodgers, and Kenny Rodgers (Brenda); sisters-in-law: Barbara Bloodsaw (James), and Joyce Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:00am, with the visitation beginning at 10:30am and services starting at 11:30am at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery following the services. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com.
