Joe William Kellogg passed away peacefully in Tyler Texas on December 10, 2022 after cheerfully and courageously battling Alzheimer's. Joe was a lifelong resident of Huntsville, Texas. He was born in Austin, Texas on February 4, 1942 the son of William Hudson and Ava Louise Mauldin Kellogg of Huntsville.
Joe spent his childhood growing up in the historic Kellogg-Pritchett house on Avenue O in Huntsville. Following in his father's footsteps, Joe developed a steadfast love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing and exploring the vast woods of southeast Texas. Joe achieved his Eagle Scout Rank and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Louisiana State University. Joe was an accomplished surveyor traveling to the Pacific Northwest working for the Forest Service before returning home for a career in his home state. Joe was awarded his Master of Finance from Texas A & M University before also obtaining his real estate license. Joe was an avid swimmer and walker in his later years.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bill and Lou Kellogg of Huntsville as well as cherished aunts and uncles Christine and Carl Kellogg and Elizabeth and Bill Crouch. Left to cherish his memory is his sister Barbara Kellogg Ryder of Galveston and numerous cousins including Steve and Vicki Kellogg, Carolyn and Rick Hill, Kim and Burt Weber. Robertson, Tom Ryder, Kathleen and Pat Wood, Joan and Will McAlexander and a whole host of great grand nieces and nephews. If desired, memorials may be made for the continued preservation of the Kellogg-Pritchett House in the care of Walker County Historical Commission Gibbs-Powell House 1228 11th Street Huntsville TX 77340. Services will be held on December 16th, 2pm at Waller Thornton Funeral Home 672 F.M. 980. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery.
