Lila Mae Caraway, age 76 of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on December 14, 2024. Lila was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on November 24, 1948, one of seven children born to AL and Mildred Birdwell.

Lila attended school in Gadsden, Alabama, while attending Etawah High School she was introduced to Ervin "Buddy" Caraway through a friend as a pen pal and in March of 1967 they were married. Lila, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, loved God, family, church, music and her pets. Lila worked for the United States Post Office before retiring after 27 years of service, was a member of Cook Springs Baptist Church, and active in her community for 52 years.

Lila Caraway is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Buddy Caraway, her parents, Aurvie L Birdwell and Mildred NeSmith Birdwell, sister Frances Dickerson and brothers Charles Birdwell, and Marvin Birdwell; and bother-in-law Troy Bearden, extended family members, in-laws Ervin B and Elizabeth R. Pruitt Caraway, sister-in-law Deborah Barker, Herman and Gracie Caraway, Opal and Frank Weisse, and cousin Floyd Weisse.

Lila is survived by her children, Elizabeth Caraway and Donald Caraway, daughter-in-law Emily Caraway, grandchildren Cory Clow, Rylie Clow, Caitlin Clow, Dale Caraway and great grandson Reign Caraway, sister Vera McDaniel and husband Burton McDaniel, Mary Bearden; brother David Birdwell and wife Lynn Birdwell; extended family members Joy Black, Aunt Phyllis Pruitt, Nancy Chambliss and husband Randy, Roy Caraway and wife Karen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Tx from 6 pm - 8 pm

Funeral services will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, December 20th at 10 am, burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero, Tx. Arrangements are by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
