Huntsville, Texas - Maryann Rizzo Moore and her mirror twin, Roseann, were born September 22, 1935 in Houston, Harris County, Texas, to John Harold and Lena Ferro Rizzo. Since mirror twins comprise only about one-fourth of identical twins, Maryann loved to recall that Dr. Kelsey, founder of Kelsey Seybold Clinic, followed their development through their teen years out of scientific curiosity. The girls later entered public schools in Navasota, Texas after their father purchased a car dealership there, and both graduated from Navasota High School. Maryann was proudly recognized as a DAR Good Citizen in her senior year.
On November 7, 1954, she married Floyd Bryan "Sonny" Moore in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. Thus began their journey that would span nearly 64 years, ending with his passing on April 3, 2018. Throughout his distinguished career in cattle auctioning and breeding, Maryann worked alongside him, assisting with clerical work in the auction barns and, at one point, operating a successful restaurant in one of the barns. There she showcased both her culinary skills and her gift for hospitality.
In 1980, the couple entered the paint horse business. The industry now recognizes them as one of the top paint horse breeders in the world. As stated by the APHA, "they built an equine empire, an operation known for its colorful tobiano cow horses with the blood of the renowned mare Delta flowing through their veins." Their horses have literally been sold world-wide as well as across the U.S. Maryann and Floyd were honored to be inducted into the American Paint Horse Hall of Fame, a coveted honor rarely made by the association to a breeder.
Always a gracious and adept hostess, Maryann hosted people from around the world in their home, their beloved 6J Ranch. Having an identical twin sister occasionally proved helpful in that endeavor. On one memorable occasion, while Maryann was out of town, dignitaries from Japan arrived for a return visit. Roseann stepped in as hostess, and the guests never realized the difference!
Maryann was a lifetime committee member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where she and Floyd held box seats. She took great pride in managing advertising sales each year and in planning and executing elaborate dinner event for sponsors.
She was predeceased by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Roseann and Jack Brown; as well as her parents.
Surviving Maryann are two children, John Floyd Moore, Franklin, Texas; and Donna Marie Moore De La Rosa (Ruben), Huntsville; six grandchildren, namesakes of their former ranch, Jeff Bryan Moore, John Paul Moore (Lindsey), Jodi Baker, Jessica Fennell (Chad), Jennifer Albert, and Justin Albert (Lucy); nine great-grandchildren, Jaiden Cox, Payton White, Atley Fennell, Anthony Fennell, Gabriela Fennell, Gavin Fennell, Brylee Albert, Aubrey Moore and Wyatt Moore; one great-great-grandchild, Jaya Grace Martinez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends both locally and around the world.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ruben De La Rosa, Jeff Bryan Moore, John Paul Moore, Justin Albert, Bobby Miller, John Rothwell, and Wilbur Dickerson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Schwertner, Don Henderson, Steve Imhoff, Johnny Rizzo, Wade Roberts, Will De La Rosa, and Matthew De La Rosa.
