Wanda Marie Dyess Dillon met her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Ascencion Providence St. Catherine's Center in Waco, Texas.
The celebration of her life will be at Waller-Thornton Funeral home in Huntsville, Texas on Friday, June 30, at 11:00 with burial at Brooke Cemetary.
Wanda was born on March 15, 1929, in Plantersville, Texas, to Lena Mae (Holman) and Hubert W. Dyess, Sr. Wanda spent much of her childhood in Hearne before the family moved to Huntsville. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1946 and received a BA in Business in 1949 from Sam Houston State Teachers College, and a MBA in Library Science in 1968, also from Sam Houston. She married Hugh Lee Dillon, Jr. on March 17, 1951. They had three children, Marcia Lynn, Kenneth Lee, and Randall Hugh. Wanda worked in the Sam Houston State Library and then as the Librarian at New Caney Middle School for 28 years, retiring in 1997. After retirement, she worked for the Region 6 Service Center as a Library Consultant.
Aside from her faith and family, Wanda enjoyed gardening and was honored when her yard was named as the Huntsville Garden Club Yard of the Month. She was an excellent seamstress and was proficient at needlework and crafts of all kinds. She, also, enjoyed reading, Bible Study, decorating for Christmas with her collections of nativities and snowmen, playing Skipbo and Chicken Foot with friends, and watching the Astros and her family play sports. Her volunteer work included Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and elementary school Room Mom. Wanda loved traveling and enjoyed taking trips to China, the Holy Lands, and cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal with her mother. She was able to go to almost every state in the United States on family vacations and with her son, Ken, who took her on many adventures.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena Mae and Hubert Dyess, Sr., husband Hugh L. Dillon, Jr., and son Randall Hugh Dillon.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Marci Czimskey and husband, Mike of Waco; son, Ken Dillon and fiancé Charlotte Trow, of Huntsville; and daughter-in-law Shawndra Dillon of Waco; three grandchildren, Michelle Conlon and husband Sean; Matt Czimskey and wife, Amanda; Lauryn Simmons and husband, Micah of Waco; and eight great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Casen, and Zane Conlon; Olivia, Pierce, and Clay Czimskey; and Takoda and Elias Simmons.
The family would like to thank the incredible 4th floor staff of St. Catherine's Center in Waco for their love and care of Mom(Mimi) the past seven years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Stroke Association, Elkins Lake Baptist Church Library, or the Betty Ford Center.
